Introduction to the AdS/CFT CorrespondenceAbstractThe aim of these lectures is to provide the background and to give an introduction to the AdS/CFT correspondence, which is a duality between a weakly coupled string theory and a strongly coupled field theory. I will introduce the necessary string theory tools, motivate the correspondence, and show how the duality can be used to extract field theory results from string theory or its effective supergravity.
