Calabi-Yau manifolds play an important role in string theory and are a prime example of manifolds of special holonomy. I will explain the relevance of Calabi-Yau manifolds for string theory and discuss their properties. This will include an introduction into complex manifolds and Kaehler manifolds and their moduli spaces. All of this we be exemplified on simple examples. If time permits, I will also discuss other manifolds of special holonomy, such as G2 and Spin(7).
